Finish of Term 3 pictures

Just a few pictures from the end of term 3. Introducing "Nevaeh's Art wall" thanks to Ann for making the beautiful sign for the sensory room. Nevaeh had been exploring using different ways to draw and paint, with the use of Chalk, pens, crayons and paint. We also enjoyed the books from Blenz

touching and looking at different textures with bright inviting colors. We are looking forward to term 4 and some more exciting learning and fun in Ruma Tui for Nevaeh. 

Pictures and Video Term 3

Hi team, sorry this blog post is a bit late, but how nice is it to see everyone back at school over these past couple of weeks. Nevaeh was certainly happy to see her friends. It was a great first day back on her first Thursday, lots of laughter and language, Nevaeh walked into class and went and straight to her desk opened it up to see what she could find. We have been have regular breaks between activities and recording some of these amazing moments. Nevaeh is certainly expressing herself through language and emotions more at the moment. We are currently working on "today I am happy" and using a happy picture 🙂 also on Epic with short books about emotions, happy, sad, angry. Nevaeh seems really engaged in these short stories and I am loving hearing her say "happy" it's the cutest wee voice. I think building on modeling verbal communication and symbols will be really helpful and enjoyable for Nevaeh over the next couple of weeks and into term 4. Hope you guys enjoy the videos and pictures of Nevaeh and seeing how happy she is being back at school with her friends and in Runa Tui. 

Week 1 Term 3

Welcome to Term 3! Nevaeh come back to school after a lovey break ready to learn and see her friends. We started the week off with a visit from Sam. Nevaeh loved being in the big sensory room enjoying some turn taking and stretching along with some singing.  Nevaeh especially enjoyed being in the blow up pod, singing "row row row your boat", Nevaeh had some great reaching out and using left side, stretching up and wonderful movement. 

We have also been working alongside the class in maths, we are looking at statistics. It was lots of fun doing the M&M colour sorting, we found out our packet had more Red M&M's than any other colour. Nevaeh used the abacus to count on and we coloured in a bar graph.  Neveah was also part of a group with her friends Lucas and Violet looking at who had what pets in Ruma Tui, was lots of fun asking class mates what pets they had at home and recording it.  

I think the best part for Nevaeh being back at school was seeing her friends in the class, she had a big smile and was very engaged and relaxed all week. Nevaeh was very happy to spend time with her friend Violet, walking around singing and stomping on the deck. Bring on a positive, fun term 3. 

Fun Day Wednesday

This morning Nevaeh played with a piece of newspaper for a long time.  She was turning it over and looking at the print as well as enjoying the sound it made as she moved it.  The weather was not too bad today so we had a trip into town where Nevaeh got to do some exploring in the supermarket and the new Mitre 10.  She was happy to walk alongside of us, had some stop and wait times, putting things in the basket, waiting patiently to be served and explored the sounds some of the surfaces made eg the shelving in Mitre 10.  One of the ladies that worked there gave Nevaeh a balloon!  (extra bonus for the day!)

Super Star at Sorting Colours

 Nevaeh is showing us her colour sorting skills.  She was very quick to sort the different colours (black and white) and it was so effortless!

Over the past couple of weeks Nevaeh has had a couple of days off school with a cold ,winter bugs are around for sure. But this week Nevaeh was back to her old self and ready to learn. We have been concentrating on ways to extend Nevaehs interest in counting, she loves the number 6 and has really enjoyed counting up to 6 and then on to 10,great language being used and using different things to count with. We are enjoying the abacus 🧮 at the moment and had lots of fun talking about colors and counting with it also turn taking. We have also enjoyed the black and white posting box from Jane. Nevaeh really enjoyed posting back objects and white into the correct side of the box, getting very fast each time. 

Sensory work plus big the skateboard

Abit of messy play being explored this week. Thanks to Jackie for supplying the fun stuff and kick starting Nevaeh on her discovery of some different smells, textures and sounds. Nevaeh was abit unsure at the start but with a little song and some patience we were successful at getting the hand on for a wee touch. The macaroni was a great sound and feel in the shaving cream,still not so keen on the play dough. Friday seen the cool attraction of the "big skateboard" that came to vist Kaniere School. Nevaeh absolutely loved this, she was super interested and smiled as she walked around exploring the skateboard, she touched it and felt the wheels, while alongside her class mates.
