Nevaeh's First Go at Poetry

Nevaeh had her first go at doing the poem and going through the process of sticking in the poem and then doing some drawing in her poetry book. Nevaeh looked like she was really enjoying having a go at this. Go Nevaeh and Olivia you guys did a great job! They even got a Hapu counter.

Jane Nimmo Visit

This morning Jane from BLENNZ came to visit and introduced us to bright lights and a white umbrella.  Nevaeh was absolutely 100% engaged with this and could have kept going all day long!  Sam visited as well and we managed to find a white umbrella in town and I have a disco ball at home to bring in.

Term 2!

Kia Ora Team, and welcome back for Term 2 in Ruma Tui with Nevaeh. We have started off fantastic with lot of continued class learning and inclusion. Joining in with some Maths groups, art for poetry and routines. We have been continuing with learning our shapes and numbers, using the buttons to help and soft shapes. Nevaeh has also been enjoing drawing still, offering her a choice of colors and singing while we do it.
I have been noticing alot more "playing" with Nevaeh often with the duplo/Lego that the class has, so nice watching her explore and make choices while having fun playing. We will continue with RDA, swimming, town visits and lots more fun in class.

FUN IN THE SUN

 FUN IN THE SUN

Today Nevaeh had an exciting fun trip to town.  First we went to Harper Park (the preschool that Nevaeh attended before she came to school) where she was confident and comfortable and happy being back there.  Nevaeh headed straight for the mini tramp and then explored around the environment.  She got to see her brother Lucas and her cousins also.

Had a quick stop at the library for a brief story but it was a little too exciting as Nevaeh wanted to race around the library.

Unfortunately Melody Makers - a small music group session at REAP was not in the usual place today so we missed out so we went for a walk along the beach front and explored many different things along the way (different surfaces that she walked on (stones, sand, larger stones, large steps to go up and down, smooth sculptures and seats).  With a little encouragement from Olivia she walked independently in front of us along the walkway.  When we got back to school Nevaeh worked on her chromebook where she confidently held her stylus for long periods of time (I was so impressed!).  A really nice day for Nevaeh.

Nevaeh in action

Wow just about at the end of a very full on term 1! Nevaeh has been involved in so many things, athletics, swimming, class sensory, art, ukelele practice, kahoots, dance class and many more. I feel this term has seen Nevaeh shine with confidence, patience and a willingness to try new things. We have mastered sitting at her desk and finishing tasks along side the class. Even joining in at mat time, with this week answering Mrs Longs "good morning" with "morena". Building independence at RDA and using a great hold on the saddle with her hand. There has been many friendships made but Nevaeh has found a special friend in Violet, she is a lovely friend who enjoys walking with myself and Nevaeh, and has become really good at singing the "wheels on the bus". Term 1 has seen so many wonderful happy achievements, Nevaeh is certainly loving Ruma Tui.

Using Stylus Hand Over Hand

What a great day Nevaeh had today.  We didn't have a stylus go flying and Olivia and Nevaeh worked together using a stylus.  This was a new program that she hasn't really used before so was not used to using her hand.  So we had an idea that we will use the stylus on any new program on the iPad.  Awesome work from Olivia and Nevaeh!

activities and interactions.

What an eventful week. Nevaeh had a few new experiences this which included making play dough with Jackie, riding independently at RDA and the first class swim for the year! I found Nevaeh to be very social this week and was wanting to be around her class mates and have fun. She would independently go and seek out friends to sit with on the mat or at the desks to do class work. She had the biggest smile while doing this and you could absoulty see how much she was enjoying her environment and the friends in it. RDA was was very successful with Nevaeh holding onto the sadle independently and sitting up so beautifully with the most amazing posture, she smiled the whole time stopping occasionally to reach out and feel the trees and bush. She Thanked everyone after the ride and said good bye. Massive improvements. What a great week Ruma Tui with Nevaeh.
